I think one of my favorite parts about the holidays is all the animated movies, Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, Frosty and watching those with my family while we eat way too many snack foods and treats
So the day after Thanksgiving is the start of my holiday baking, and I’m not a super great baker, ok well that’s not true I can bake just fine but I’m a messy….and I mean messy baker. Powdered Sugar all over the table and floor, bits of cookie batter splattered on the coffee pot and walls, flour on my pants and in my hair it’s a whole thing. So I try to find recipes that don’t have a ton of ingredients in them in hopes that it will be less messy.
This is not one of those recipes, I found this one while scrolling thru Pinterest one night (instead of sleeping per usual), I’ve had to tweak it some and every time I sit down to write out this recipe I think of different things to add or do to make it better so I’m sure you will too.
While testing out this recipe with my oldest the house smelled amazing! It smelled like Santa’s workshop and with the amount of powder sugar covering my kitchen it looked like it too.
These little Christmas patties are so yummy you could eat a whole bowl if you aren’t careful! They do need to be stored in the fridge due to the cream cheese in them, they usually don’t last long enough in our house for it to be an issue.
You can do these with sprinkles instead of food dye if you prefer, or dip them in chocolate
If your making these with your kiddos remember to take a step back and snap a few pictures these are the moments you will want to remember, because these are the moments they will tell their kids about.
If you make these tell me about it in the comments below or in my DM’s on Instagram send me pictures or tell me if you made any additions or substitutions to the recipe, and as always
Remember to Wash Your Hands, Wear a Mask and Make Good Choices!
Enjoy!
Christmas Peppermint Patties
2 ½ pounds Powder Sugar
8oz Cream Cheese
2 tsp peppermint extract
Red and Green Food Coloring- We prefer the gel kind its less messy
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup powder sugar
In a bowl combine cream cheese and peppermint extract using an electric mixer on low speed
Slowly add in powder sugar and continue to mix on low until a dough begins to form
Add more powder sugar to the dough and form into a ball- Adding more powder sugar here keeps the dough from sticking to you and the table.
Divide dough into 4 pieces
Add a dime size of food coloring to each dough ball – *Tip Don’t try to mix the colors it winds up looking like a weird flesh color while still perfectly edible just doesn’t “look” great*
Kneed ball of dough until the color has worked its way thru
Roll into long rope
Repeat for each section of dough
Chill for 30 minutes
Slice into bite sized pieces
Roll each piece into a ball and roll in the granulated sugar or powder sugar
Press each pattie down with a fork (like pb cookies)
Place on a tray and chill for an hour
You can store these in a Tupperware container in the fridge after they have set.
