Does adding Pineapple to a dish make it Hawaiian? Nope, but this is"Hawaiian Style" Meatballs

So my family...well my husband and oldest son (the little one is still super picky) have been quite more adventurous lately and my husband saw this recipe floating around on Facebook but could never seem to remember to tag me or send the recipe to me so I had to get a little creative with the information I had but it worked out great!

He kept saying he wanted these Hawaiian Meatballs and I was wondering what made them Hawaiian, was it actually a food that is native to the island? Or is it just something someone came up with and it had pineapple in it so they called it Hawaiian.....well without ever being in Hawaii I can't say this for certainty but my guess this is a Hawaiian style dish but not a native Hawaiian meal.

It's a really simple recipe that you can actually prep and throw it in a freezer bag and then whenever your ready to have it throw it in the crock-pot for dinner that night. With the rising prices of...well everything (Thanks 2022) I love that this is a budget friendly meal as well as being a simple little effort meal.

I hope you enjoy, take pictures, make it a theme night (Might I suggest a Wilson family favorite and pair this meal with Lilo and Stitch) and be sure to follow along on Tiktok and Instagram, you can find the links at the bottom of this post!

Slow Cooker Hawaiian Style Meatballs-

24oz Frozen Meatballs

20oz Canned Pineapple- drain and reserve juices

2 Bell Peppers Diced- You can use whichever you like or a mixture but I prefer Green

1 Cup Brown Sugar

2-3 TBS of Soy Sauce

3 TBS of Flour or Cornstarch

Directions-

1. Spray your Crock-pot with non-stick spray or use a liner ( I love these Reynolds Wrap Liners from Amazon)

2. Place Frozen meatballs in the bottom of your crock-pot and top with the drained pineapple, and your bell peppers

3. In a mixing bowl whisk together your pineapple juice, brown sugar, soy sauce and flour/cornstarch

4. Pour the sauce into your crock-pot and mix everything to combine

5. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or until heated through.

6. Serve with your preferred rice
